History

A Brief Historical Outline of the Winged Dragon Karate Club

January 1977

Winged Dragon Karate Club formed by Black Belts David T. Cheatham Jr., Joy H. Cheatham, and Lorenza T. Trotter.   Their training was under the direction of Prof. David D. Rix, Master of the Chin-Na and Kenpo arts and founder of the Defenders Club ( http://www.5centerplace.com ) in Baltimore, MD.  Ms. Joanne Price of the Defenders Club also was their Instructor.  The new club brought the arts of Kenpo and Chin-Na to the Anne Arundel County area with ties being maintained with the parent club through membership in the American Chin-Na Association with Prof. David D. Rix as Director.

June 1981

Winged Dragon Karate Club promoted its first two Black Belts completely trained under the Winged Dragon club name at the Dojo in Quarterfield Elementary school.

The Black Pearl Society was formed for Black Belts who received additional training and were to become teachers for the club.   The pearl represents the pearl of knowledge and, of course, the Black Pearl is the most rare.
