Brief Historical Outline of
Winged Dragon Karate Club
January 1977 Winged Dragon Karate Club formed by Black Belts David T. Cheatham Jr., Joy H. Cheatham, and Lorenza T. Trotter. Their training was under the direction of Prof. David D. Rix, Master of the Chin-Na and Kenpo arts and founder of the Defenders Club ( http://www.5centerplace.com ) in Baltimore, MD. Ms. Joanne Price of the Defenders Club also was their Instructor. The new club brought the arts of Kenpo and Chin-Na to the Anne Arundel County area with ties being maintained with the parent club through membership in the American Chin-Na Association with Prof. David D. Rix as Director.
June 1981 Winged Dragon Karate Club promoted its first two Black Belts completely trained under the Winged Dragon club name at the Dojo in Quarterfield Elementary school.
June 1981 Black Pearl Society formed. The Black Pearl Society was created for Black Belts who received additional training and were to become teachers for the club. The pearl represents the pearl of knowledge and, of course, the Black Pearl is the most rare.September 1982 Branch opened at Glendale Elementary School under Black Belt Robert Beke
January 1983 Branch opened at Arnold Elementary School under Black Belt John White
September 1983 Branch opened at Glen Burnie High School
September 1989 Branch opened at South County Recreation Center
September 1992 Branch opened at Hillsmere Elementary School
February 2001 Branch opened at North County Recreation Center
January 2002 Winged Dragon Karate Club begins its 25th year of teaching self-defense classes in Anne Arundel County, MD
January 2002 Branch at Glen Burnie High School transfers to Glendale Elementary School
June 2002 Winged Dragon Karate Club Founder and Director Emeritus David Cheatham promoted to 8th Degree Black Belt by Prof. David D. Rix (10th Degree Black Belt)
June 2002 Winged Dragon Karate Club Instructors inducted into Defender's Inc. Special Unit 2000 under the auspices of Prof. David D. Rix (10th Degree Black Belt) and Prof. Joann Price (8th Degree Black Belt)
October 2002 Winged Dragon Karate Club holds its 25th Anniversary
